Arrowman started out as a normal child with a normal name from very normal Independence, Missouri. He attended his first Chiefs game in 1966 and like the normal 12-year-old, knew that football was his game.
In 1970, when HIS CHIEFS won the Super Bowl, he was in high school. They didn't cancel classes for the celebration downtown! He went to the nurse's office where even the nurse had Monte's "number." "You are not sick. You only want to go to the parade," she said. Of course, her diagnosis was quite correct, but Monte had the cure. Knowing without a doubt that he was being chased, he ran (literally - teenagers are capable of such things) all the way from Van Horn High School to downtown Kansas City. On reflection, Monte says he still believes the consequences were worth seeing his heroes in their glory. (He was expelled.) |
